Definition of a VCPR
- This is the legal term for having a relationship with a vet. Vets are not allowed to give treatment advice or diagnosis via phone/email/text etc unless they have a VCPR in place. A VCPR is only good for ONE YEAR.
The following is the definition NY has placed for a VCPR.
A. The veterinarian has sufficient knowledge of the animal to initiate at least a general or preliminary diagnosis of the medical condition of the animal. This means that he/she has recently seen and are personally acquainted with the care of the animal by a physical examination of the animal and/or by medically appropriate and timely visits with the animal; and
B. The veterinarian is readily available or have arranged for emergency coverage for follow-up evaluations in the event of adverse reactions or the failure of the treatment regimen
